Coming upon your wonderful site has given me great information and excitment. I am a granddaughter to Lizzie Thorup "Thomas" Lindeman.

Hi, Maurine here. Emily has it right.Herman F. (my grandfather) is the one labelled "Albert" and the woman you have labelled "Gertrude" is grandpa's second wife, Rosella Davies Thorup. The person you have labelled "Alvin" is actually Eliza Thorup Fikstad and I believe the man you have labelled "Russell" is Eliza's husband Axel Laures Fikstad Jr. Is the old couple Hyrum and Nettie Thorup? This is Maurine, Emily's mom. Sam, I remember Aunt Bertha! As I remember she was an artist. I remember Aunt Liza (Eliza)who lived a few blocks from where I grew up and Uncle Bill where the Thorups used to hold their family reunions at his farm. This is way too cool!

I just love this blog! This is Maurine, Emily's mom. Sam, I knew Aunt Bertha! If I remember correctly, she was a painter. I often thought her and my grandfather, Herman F. Thorup, looked like twins. I remember Uncle Bill (we used to have family reunions at his farm)and Aunt Liza (Eliza) lived just a few blocks from where I grew up. This is way too cool!

My Great Great Grandfather was Herman F.F. Throup. His daughter Bertha Throup married my Great Grandfather William Gustav Lindstrom. They had a son named Gale William Lindstrom who is my Grandfather.

Confirmed, it is Rosella Davies Thorup that you have identified as Gertrude, and Herman Frederick Thorup that you have identified as Albert.

The woman on the far left, next to Lizzie, is Gertrude. The man to her right is probably Albert - I only have a picture of him when he was older, but it looks like him. He has distinctive ears.

Anyway, hope that's a help!

We have tons of handwritten memoirs from H.F.F. Thorup, if you're interested. My mom's really excited with some of the stuff you have!

I always get those names confused.

Not only did he love iris, but so did his son, Herman F, and so did HIS daughter Myla, and so did her daughters, Barbara and Maurine.

My mother has iris in her garden that descended directly from Herman FF's iris....he actually cultivated his own iris, and made his own "species," I guess you could call it. The iris have travelled with us from Utah, to Oregon, to Arizona, and now to Delaware.

We have a narrative that Herman FF wrote, detailing the loss of his Sophie, and then his children....the English is stilted, as you can imagine, but it is heart rending to imagine what he must have gone through.

He was especially attached to the child that cost Sophie her life - he took her with him everywhere he could. When she finally died....man. Sad.
